PROMHANDICAM organized a three‑day workshop in Yaoundé for 25 young mothers with disabilities. The goal: to strengthen their skills in sustainable urban agriculture and promote economic empowerment.
Funded by the CLÉ Program, the workshop covered:
- Soilless crop techniques (leafy vegetables, tomatoes, peppers)
- Small‑scale poultry farming
- Basics of marketing and running a micro‑enterprise
A participative and inclusive format
Sessions were led by agronomists and psychologists, with individualized support adapted to each type of disability (mobility, visual, hearing). Access ramps, Braille documents and a sign language interpreter were provided.
Participant feedback
“I’m leaving with tomato seeds and a small watering kit. I will grow in my yard – it’s the first time someone has given me the means to earn a living.” – Marie, 24, hearing impairment.
A six‑month follow‑up is planned to assess the impact of the project and support the young women in creating their micro‑farms.
Event date: May 12–14, 2025
